Physical Rehabilitation
What are Health Rehabilitation Classes?
Physical rehabilitation classes at Walnut Grove Studio bring together expert led exercise and personalised support in a small group setting. Each class is designed around a specific health condition or recovery goal – from cardiac rehabilitation and respiratory conditions to lower limb surgery recovery, giving participants a structured, safe and progressive route back to better health and independence.
Unlike a general fitness class, every session at Walnut Grove is led by a qualified practitioner who understands the clinical picture behind each condition. Class sizes are kept deliberately small so that exercises can be adapted to individual needs, progress can be monitored closely, and no one is left behind. Whether you have been referred by your GP, discharged from an NHS programme, or are self-referring, you will find a class and a pace that works for you.
Sessions take place at Walnut Grove Studio in Portishead, with a welcoming and supportive atmosphere that makes returning to exercise feel manageable, however long it has been or however uncertain you feel about getting started.

Physical Rehabilitation FAQs
I haven't exercised in a long time and I'm nervous about starting. Is that normal?
Very. Most people who come to our rehabilitation classes feel exactly the same way before their first session. That is precisely why class sizes are kept small and every session is led by a qualified practitioner rather than a general fitness instructor. You will not be pushed beyond what is appropriate for you, and you will not be the only person in the room who has had to start again.
How is this different from a regular fitness class?
Every session at Walnut Grove Studio is led by a qualified practitioner who understands the clinical picture behind each condition. Exercises are adapted to individual needs, progress is monitored closely and the pace is set by the group, not by a generic programme. If you have a specific condition or are recovering from surgery, that context shapes everything about how the class is run.
I've been discharged from an NHS programme. Can I continue here?
Yes, and this is one of the most common reasons people come to us. Being discharged from an NHS programme does not mean you have finished rehabilitating. Our classes are designed to provide exactly the kind of structured, supported continuation that many people need but cannot access once their NHS referral ends.
How do I know which class is right for me?
If you have had a cardiac event, have been diagnosed with a cardiac condition, or have been referred by a GP or hospital programme, Healthy Hearts is likely the right fit. If you are preparing for or recovering from a hip, knee or other lower limb operation or injury, the Lower Limb Pre and Post Op class is designed for you. If you are still not sure, just get in touch and we will talk it through with you.
Is there any funding available?
The Lower Limb Pre and Post Op Rehabilitation programme is run by the Walnut Grove Wellbeing Community Interest Company and is available at no cost to eligible participants. Healthy Hearts sessions are £12 per session, with CIC funding available for those who qualify. Contact us to check your eligibility before booking.
