Homeopathy
What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a holistic medicine that uses specially prepared, highly diluted substances – given mainly in tablet form – with the aim of triggering the body’s own natural healing mechanisms. A homeopath prescribes remedies according to each patient’s specific set of symptoms and how they experience them, always taking into account their overall level of health. The focus is on the individual, not the condition.
Homeopathy is based on the principle of “like treats like” – the idea that a substance which can cause symptoms in large doses can, in very small amounts, help to treat similar symptoms. This concept is not entirely foreign to conventional medicine: the stimulant Ritalin is used to treat ADHD, and small doses of allergens such as pollen are sometimes used to desensitise allergic patients. In homeopathy however, the doses used are so small that toxic side effects are avoided entirely.

Homeopathy FAQs
What is homeopathy good for?
Homeopathy can treat a wide range of conditions. The areas Wendy sees most commonly are period and menopausal problems, skin complaints (particularly in children), anxiety and depression, and sleep disorders. If your condition is not listed, please get in touch – homeopathy may still be able to help.
The doses are so small - how can the remedies actually work?
This is one of the most common questions about homeopathy, and it’s a fair one. The precise mechanism is not fully understood, and homeopathy remains a subject of ongoing scientific debate.
Everyone responds differently to homeopathic treatment. Your practitioner will discuss what to expect during your consultation, and homeopathy is often used alongside conventional treatment as part of your overall care.
Are homeopathic remedies safe?
Yes. The very small doses used make homeopathic remedies extremely safe with no toxic side effects. It is still important to consult a registered practitioner. Wendy is registered with the Society of Homeopaths to ensure the right remedy is prescribed for you.
Should I stop taking my prescribed medication?
No – never stop taking prescribed medication without discussing it with your doctor first. Over time, as the homeopathic treatment takes effect, it may be possible to reduce certain medications, but only in consultation with your GP.
I can buy homeopathic remedies over the counter - is that the same thing?
Over-the-counter homeopathic products are typically combination remedies aimed at common symptoms and can be useful for minor complaints. However they are no substitute for a consultation with a qualified practitioner who can prescribe a remedy tailored precisely to you and your full picture of health.
