What is Senior Strong?

Senior Strong is a gentle exercise class designed for older adults who want to build strength, mobility and fitness at a comfortable, manageable pace. Every movement is low impact and can be adapted to suit your ability, whether you are keeping active or returning to exercise after a break.

The class runs for 45 minutes and focuses on the things that matter most in later life, including balance, steadiness on your feet, functional strength for everyday tasks, and gentle cardiovascular fitness. There is no pressure to keep up and no experience needed, just movement that meets you where you are.

Just as important is what happens afterwards. Each session is followed by a 30-minute stay and chat, a relaxed chance to enjoy a hot drink and good company. Staying active is about connection as much as movement, and Senior Strong is as much a community as it is a class.

Payment is taken at the class. Call reception to find out about current availability and start dates.

WHAT TO EXPECT

How Senior Strong helps you

Senior Strong works on strength, balance and confidence together, delivering benefits that reach well beyond the class itself.
01
Builds strength for everyday life
Gentle, progressive movements strengthen the muscles you rely on daily, making tasks like standing, lifting and climbing stairs feel easier and safer.
02
Improves balance and steadiness
Targeted exercises develop the stabilising muscles that support balance and coordination, helping reduce the risk of falls and building confidence on your feet.
03
Supports social connection and wellbeing
The stay-and-chat afterwards turns exercise into a social occasion, easing isolation and lifting mood. Good company and gentle movement together support a healthier, happier later life.

What our Senior Strong students say

I like the way that Candy always explains the benefits to different parts of our bodies of each exercise, her delivery always with a smile and plenty of encouragement!
Always a good workout and great company all round - I always leave with a smile on my face and know I’ve done some good exercise.
Candy is so encouraging and makes the lessons a lot of fun. It is nice to meet the other people for coffee and a chat afterwards.
I really look forward to Candy's Senior Strong class each Monday morning. Candy always manages to make our experience interesting as well as fun! Somehow Candy manages to give us all individual encouragement as well as explaining how we get the most from each move safely.
