Reiki

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive energy healing technique that reduces stress, promotes relaxation and supports the body's natural capacity to heal.
ABOUT THE THERAPY

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese healing technique based on the principle that a practitioner can support the flow of energy through the body using gentle hand movements, either resting lightly on the body or held just above it. The word itself combines the Japanese words for universal energy and life force, and the practice is rooted in the understanding that wellbeing depends on energy flowing freely through the body without blockage or imbalance.

Sessions are deeply calming and non-invasive. You remain fully clothed throughout, and treatment involves no manipulation, pressure or discomfort of any kind. The experience is often described as a profound sense of warmth, stillness and relaxation, with many patients reporting a noticeable shift in how they feel, both during and after treatment. Some notice physical sensations of heat or tingling, others simply feel very deeply at rest.

Reiki is particularly valued as a support for mental and emotional health, including stress, anxiety, low mood and the kind of persistent mental fatigue that is hard to shift. It is also suitable for children, making it one of the more versatile complementary therapies available at Walnut Grove. It works well alongside conventional medical treatment and other therapies, and does not require any particular belief system to benefit from it.

WHAT TO EXPECT

How Reiki helps you

Reiki works on the whole person, mind, body and spirit. Here is what our patients typically experience.
01
Stress relief and deep relaxation
Reiki's most consistent and immediate effect is a profound calming of the mind and nervous system. In a world that rarely slows down, an hour of genuine stillness and focused restorative attention can have an impact that is hard to put into words and easy to feel.
02
Support for mental and emotional health
Reiki is widely used to support anxiety, low mood, emotional overwhelm and mental fatigue. It does not replace professional mental health care, but for many people it forms a meaningful and regular part of how they maintain their emotional equilibrium.
03
A gentle option for children
Reiki is one of the few complementary therapies that translates well to younger patients. It is entirely non-invasive, requires no undressing and involves nothing that might feel unfamiliar or uncomfortable. Children often respond very naturally to it.
04
Complements other treatments and medical care
Reiki sits comfortably alongside conventional medicine and other therapies. Whether you are managing a health condition, supporting recovery, or simply looking after your overall wellbeing, it can be woven into your wider care without conflict or complication.

Many people who come to Reiki with scepticism still find the experience genuinely beneficial, often because the deep relaxation alone has real value regardless of how you explain it. You do not need to hold any particular belief for the session to be worth your time. Come with an open mind and see how you feel afterwards.

You lie fully clothed on a treatment couch while your practitioner places their hands gently on or just above different areas of your body, working through a sequence of positions. There is no pressure, no manipulation and nothing that should feel uncomfortable. Most people find it deeply relaxing, and it is not unusual to drift off during treatment.

Yes, and it can be particularly helpful for children dealing with anxiety, emotional difficulty or stress. Sessions for younger patients are gentle, unhurried and entirely non-invasive. Please mention at the time of booking that the appointment is for a child so your therapist can prepare accordingly.

Yes. Reiki is non-invasive and does not interfere with conventional medical treatment. It is used by many people as a complementary support during challenging periods, including illness, recovery and times of significant emotional stress. It is always worth letting your therapist know your situation so they can tailor the session appropriately.

Most people feel calm, rested and a little lighter than when they arrived. Some notice a shift in mood or energy that carries through the following day or two. Occasionally people feel emotional during or after a session, which is a normal response and nothing to be concerned about. Drinking plenty of water afterwards is a good idea, as it is with most complementary therapies.
