Samuel Maddock
With over 20 years of clinical experience, Sam combines osteopathy and Functional Medicine to help people make sense of symptoms that may have previously seemed confusing, unrelated or difficult to explain. After qualifying as an osteopath in 2003, Sam spent 13 years at Walnut Grove Clinic, where he developed a strong foundation in patient-centred care before spending the last decade integrating Functional Medicine into his clinical practice. He is delighted to be collaborating with Walnut Grove once again, making his integrated approach to persistent and complex health concerns available to patients through the clinic.
Sam has a particular interest in helping people with persistent or complex health concerns, including migraine, chronic pain, fatigue, digestive health issues and other long-standing symptoms that have not fully responded to conventional approaches. Many of his patients have seen multiple healthcare professionals before attending and value his ability to help them understand how seemingly unrelated symptoms may be connected. Rather than viewing each symptom in isolation, Sam looks for the underlying patterns connecting the nervous system, immune system, gut, metabolism, nutrition and lifestyle. This whole-person approach often helps explain why symptoms can fluctuate, overlap or persist, allowing treatment to focus on the factors most likely to improve long-term health.
As an IFM Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner, Sam combines the latest evidence with more than two decades of clinical experience to create personalised, practical treatment plans tailored to each individual. His approach is centred on helping people understand why symptoms have developed, why they may persist and, most importantly, what can be done to support better long-term health. His goal is not simply to manage symptoms, but to help people better understand their health, build resilience and support long-term wellbeing through realistic, evidence-informed care.

What Sam's patients say...
Sam’s treatment has been nothing short of life changing, and I cannot recommend him enough. I was suffering from chronic migraine for two years – I had daily pain with many disabling neurological symptoms, and frequent severe flare-ups. The majority of my days are pain free, and the infrequent flare-ups are mild. When they do occur, I have the tools to treat them successfully.
Over a series of weekly appointments Sam clearly explained how different factors can contribute towards experiencing migraine and gave me practical strategies to overcome these alongside gentle manual therapy. By implementing his advice I have now been clear from migraines for some time. As a health professional myself I would happily recommend him to anyone.
For anyone experiencing pain or injury, I cannot recommend Sam more highly. Sam’s attention to detail, his focus on the ‘whole being’ and fully understanding the underlying issues mean he is far superior to any other expert I have visited before. His work goes far beyond this, focusing on my breathing, nutrition and overall stress levels.
I was suffering from chronic joint and muscle pain and was having no success in finding the problem or a solution. Sam’s approach had an immediate effect simply through the act of authentic listening. The functional testing gave the opportunity to pinpoint exactly what was missing. I would highly recommend.
I have been suffering with stress and exhaustion for many years and Sam has taught me ways to manage and improve my symptoms. He is very clear when explaining these strategies and after four sessions there is an improvement in my physical symptoms.
