Injectables: What they are & How they work

At RejuvenAge we are very pleased to be working with the Walnut Grove family and thought we would take some time to tell you about some of the fantastic treatments we will be offering at the studio.

We aim to work with people to provide a holistic assessment of their skin in the hope that people will feel happier and more confident in their skin. It is not about changing the way you look but rejuvenating the beauty that is already there.

Botulinum Toxin injection- Anti-wrinkle treatment

Botulinum toxin, most famously ‘Botox’ is a toxin injected directly into the muscles which works by preventing the muscle from moving and in effect smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles. It can also be used in advanced sessions for teeth grinding, excess sweating and migraines.

As anti-wrinkle treatments are prescription-only medications, they all require an initial consultation for new clients. This is where you get the chance to meet the prescriber and we get the chance to talk through what your expectations are for the treatment and how we can tailor the treatment to suit you.

Different muscles within the structure of the face can be injected to target specific problem areas. Following the consultation, we will use a fine-tip needle to inject toxins into various points on the face to get the desired outcome. The injections should be relatively pain-free, so we do not usually require the use of numbing cream. Botulinum Toxin usually lasts for around 3-4 months, but this may vary slightly from person to person, to ensure optimum results follow the aftercare advice. It can take up to 2 weeks to experience the full effect of the toxin and at this time you may require top-up injections which are included in the cost of the treatment.

Dermal Filler

Dermal fillers are an injectable treatment that fills lines and wrinkles and adds volume to areas such as your lip, jaw, cheeks, chin, neck and hands. Most dermal fillers used in the UK contain a natural substance found in many areas of the body, called hyaluronic acid.

Dermal fillers are not permanent and how long they last varies from person to person, but they usually last between 6 and 18 months.  Dermal fillers can feel slightly uncomfortable, but this is minimised with the use of an anaesthetic cream that is applied 30 minutes before the procedure. We will then use a fine-tipped needle to apply filler to the desired area, the procedure can usually take between 20 to 30 minutes depending on what area of the face is being done. Afterwards, the treated area may be a bit red, sore and swollen. Any swelling or bruising should settle down in a few days.

Vitamin B12- Hydroxocobalamin

As it states in the name B12 is a vitamin that can be found in our body. We normally source this from foods such as meat, fish, eggs and poultry. As we age our ability to absorb B12 decreases, medication we take can also affect how we absorb it and in some cases, we just do not get enough B12 in our diet, which may result in us becoming deficient. Common symptoms of deficiency include tiredness, lack of energy, low mood & anxiety and memory problems.

The frequency of injections can vary from monthly to 3 monthly, but this can be discussed at your consultation. A fine needle is injected into the deltoid muscle of the upper arm, this is usually relatively pain-free, but you may notice prick as the needle is inserted.

Regular vitamin injections aim to increase energy levels, support metabolism and healthy weight loss, improve dull and tired skin, boost the immune system, and improve sleep and mental focus.

Skin Boosters

As with Dermal fillers, skin boosters contain the substance Hyaluronic acid but in a less viscous form, they can also include other vitamins and nutrients for the skin The idea of fillers is to add volume whereas boosters aim to improve the overall health, texture and hydration of the skin. They stimulate your body’s natural collagen production, improving fine lines and wrinkles and producing firmer, younger-looking skin.

To begin the session, we will apply a numbing cream to the area, this usually takes 30 minutes to have an effect. Next the skin boosters are injected into the Dermis (second layer of the skin) using a fine needle at a series of points around the areas of concern, this process can take 30-40 minutes. It can take 2-3 weeks to see results from the treatment and these results can last up to 6 months.
